MathematicsStudents were able to understand different measuring units via near to far approach, wherein they understood and measured things using handspan, foot span, and cubit. Students were explained the meaning of lighter, heavier, shorter, longer, filled, half-filled and applied the understanding through units of mass, length, and capacity. They were able to appreciate the need for standard units of measurement. Students also learnt to identify the placement of numerals and hands on an analog clock. They experienced in a physical way the values of the intervals of minutes and hours and also learnt the meanings of expressions such as half past, quarter past, and quarter to. Students also explored flexible methods and models to solve which includes concrete models, pictorial representations, and number sentences. Taking learning further to an experiential mode, students did an activity based on 'Shin Edu Program', wherein they discovered and showed different models using trapezium and blocks. Environmental scienceThe learning journey started with the introduction of a new topic- 'Our Universe'. The students were given a task to observe the day and night sky and identify natural and man-made things. They excitedly shared their observations about the sun, the moon, clouds, stars, birds, aeroplanes etc. They also shared their knowledge about the Universe, galaxy, and Solar System. The topic of the galaxy was introduced with the help of a video, wherein, they learnt about our 'Milky Way Galaxy' and got to know about many more galaxies in space. To explain this further, the educator explained about all the planets in the Solar system, and shared a few 'Facts about the Planets'. Students were asked to explore more about the space and share their knowledge in the class discussion. They also learnt about the 'Phases of the moon' with their names and were asked to watch the night sky daily to understand it more. The topic was concluded by revision through a quiz link and worksheet. They learnt about the Magic tool and used it also to draw the 'Solar System' which was integrated with their EVS lesson. They had a lot of fun using various tools for drawing Festival of Holi. And the lesson concluded with the Brain Developer exercise in the form of a quiz. englishLiterature The students completed the Unit-‘Christopher’s Bicycle’ with a focus on reading, comprehension and story sequencing skills. They made colourful flash cards with details of the setting, scene and characters of the story. To foster the story writing skills, children were first made to depict the beginning, middle, and end of the story through flash cards and then later on, were asked to write about the same. Grammar The recapitulation of grammar concepts like ‘Prepositions’, ‘Gender Nouns’ and ‘Singular/Plural’ was done to reinforce the learning which had taken place in the previous months. Skills A plethora of reading activities such as ‘Title Tree’, ‘Drop Everything and Read’, ‘Character Mapping’, ‘Retell the tale’ etc were conducted throughout the month in order to help the students improve their reading and comprehension skills. Typically, Annual Sports Day involves various sporting events such as locomotor activities, non-locomotor activities, manipulation skills, striking skills, indigenous games. Apart from the athletic events, yoga, gymnastics and Judo were also highlights of the day. This day was a highly anticipated event for the students, and it served as a break from the usual routine of classes and studies. It allowed students to showcase their athletic abilities, learn new skills, and interact with their peers in a positive and competitive environment. Students learnt the true meaning of Shivaratri through a semi-classical style "shiv vandana" with a lot of mudras and expressions. western dance"When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor; it's to enjoy each step along the way." The month of February began with a new dance style -Indian lyrical contemporary- on 'Shiva strotam by Ashutosh Rana' song imbibing the spirit of divinity. We used freestyle body movements along with rhythmic foot movements to create a new choreography. They were also taught the basic levels of movements like adda and chowk. It is a good exercise for mind and body coordination, it also improves the body posture. drama"It is more important to understand the emotions than to just feel them, it makes work a lot more easier and communication, clearer and better." Focussing on the idea of letting expression define what it means in terms of emotions in different situations, the end of this academic year was focussed upon identification and imitation of simple and complex emotions, understanding the basics of the stage and how to conduct themselves on and around it. Students who are engaged in music programme have the opportunity to develop a comprehensive awareness, appreciation understanding of personal life experiences and events. Practiced Song: "Sing high, sing low" art(Grade- I - II) Students were introduced to the monthly theme 'Designs and Techniques' where they drew Geometrical designs and optical illusion designs and learnt about using geometrical shapes by visualizing the pictures. Students were encouraged to draw optical illusion design, using their own hand to create a shape. The students also practised oil pastels and created a composition by filling shapes beautifully. Suncity School-37D showcased OORJA through its younger Suncitizens on the sprawling grounds of the school on Saturday, March 04, 2023. The Annual Sports meet was held for the students of Foundation Years (EYP till Grade II). The event was organised in conjunction with the Sustainable Development Goals 3, 14, 15, 16 and 17 to inculcate environmental awareness in the young minds from early on. OORJA represented Suncity’s “Integrated Sports Programme” where each child gets exposure to a variety of sports offered by the school. The term OORJA also symbolises the agility, vigour and robustness of Suncitizens as they prepare themselves to be healthy world citizens displaying willingness to participate and sportsmanship. The event sprang open with the Principal welcoming the Chief Guest Ms. Sunil Dabas, Padmashree recipient and National Kabaddi Coach, along with the members of the management—who always emphasise the significance of sports in overall development of a child. The athletic event commenced with a vibrant Walk by young Suncitizens to the tunes of a sprightly number. The Principal also joyously accompanied the tiny tots reminiscing her own childhood days. The parents, grandparents and siblings of our young athletes were astonished by the amazing sporting activities put up by the little wonders of Suncity. The races/ drills concentrated not only on the mobility and alertness but also on developing sensitivity towards the environment. ‘Crawling Caterpillar,’ ‘Scooping the Waste,’ ‘Fish Me Out’ (where students had to save the fish in multiples of three—incorporating Mathematical intelligence as well), and ‘Around the World’ are only a few examples of the various activities that filled the day. Along with various races/ drills, gymnastics and Judo also kept the audience gripped. The event was pepped up with the joyful encouragement by the cheerleaders. The Parent Engagement activities were a riveting part of the day. Everyone was fascinated by the participation of the parents. ‘Yoga for World Peace’ emanated enriching vibes and filled the atmosphere with serenity. The Chief Guest shared a personal anecdote about the 2010 Asian Games to highlight the vital role of motivation and appreciation in building a child’s confidence. She commended the PE team, and counselled the parents to inculcate respect for each other and a healthy competitiveness in their wards. The Grand Finale captivated the hearts of the viewers. The event was a resounding success which left the students, parents and the school community brimming with exhilaration.
