Alluring August is the month of getting a sense of wonder by observing the drops of water connecting sky and earth. It's the time when children enjoy rains and observe the changing patterns of clouds.Let their vivid imagination allow them to identify shapes formed by the clouds The monsoon season has begun taking over the nation, with the sweet smell of wet earth and running water droplets on plants. Which better season than the monsoon season to explore the theme ‘Plants’! Students explored the importance of plants and learnt how useful they are for all of us. They were also introduced to the concept of life below water which sensitised them to understand how important water is for aquatic animals, too. The educators and children connected together throughout the month and pledged to preserve our environment. The universal value of the month being “I am respectful” was explored through various stories and activities. This enhanced the emotional outlook of children and helped them to emerge as better humans The Magnificent Mornings were brought in with a lot of positive thoughts to give children an optimistic view of life. Mingle Monday allowed the students to shed their shells and taught them how to bond with their peers. Terrific Tuesday was a day to discuss the monthly theme and explore the immense aspects of environment. Wow Wednesday brought a surprise element for the children teaching them how to hold on to their excitement. Tango Thursday- Let's dance! Every one wore their dancing shoes and danced to their favourite beats. Fantastic Friday was the Early Primary Assembly Day, where in the students of different sections conducted the assemblies thereby celebrating special days and events. INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONSuncity School 37D celebrated India's 75th Independence Day with unprecedented patriotic fervour. The gamut of celebration started with our Principal Ms.Guneet Ohri hoisting the Tricolour on campus along with all the staff members with the national anthem echoing in the ramparts of the school campus. The Independence Day Special Assembly was very well coordinated and conducted by our confident and enthusiastic VI graders. It was a moment of great pride for the newly elected council members for whom their parents had the honour of pinning their prefect badges. The toppers of last year’s Olympiads, academic scholarship holders and winning houses were also felicitated for their excellent performances in the virtual presence of Maj. Gen. Kulpreet Singh (Retd), the Chief Guest for the occasion. Gen Kulpreet congratulated the students and encouraged them to take on the mantle of leadership seriously. Subject Integration Language and Performing Arts Subject Integration Week "What we want is to see the child in pursuit of knowledge, and not knowledge in pursuit of the child". George Bernard Shaw One way of discovering the curriculum with the children is integrating it across the board with other subjects and to do that we organized a Subject Integration Week in school during the week of 9th August to 13th August. We integrated Language with Performing Arts through an array of activities. Integrated study brought together diverse disciplines in a comprehensive manner, enabling students to develop a meaningful understanding of the complex associations and influences within a topic. ‘Envirophilia-A Fancy Dress Party’ was organized for Grade I students. The little learners looked super excited as they came dressed on the theme of Plants and Aquatic Animals and spoke about the ‘Plant or Animal’ that they played the role of, using their drama skills. They also carried props to convey their message. They explored the importance of SDG 14- ‘Life below Water’ and SDG 15- ‘Life on Land’ and made other students aware about them through their presentations. ‘The Edible Tales- Story on my Plate’ turned out to be a successful venture for Grade II students as they narrated their yummy-licious stories with the help of creatively crafted fruit and vegetable salad using their vivid imagination and creative skills. This approach further developed the children’s ability to transfer their learning to other settings and correlate their sub-conscious selves to conscious selves. The class was divided into Performers group and Audience group for these activities. The audience judged their peers’ performance on a Peer Assessment Rubric. This was only possible because they were able to closely relate to real-world linguistic connections in an integrated curriculum approach. We were amazed by the meticulous efforts shown by the students. It was altogether an amazing week and we loved every bit of it. WebinarSchool assemblies are an essential component for learning and evolution of any child. Assemblies not only inculcate a sense of school unity but also encourage expression and boost confidence. Regular assemblies aid the development of proper habits and an attitude of being a part of the audience; for performers as well as audience are equally imperative to a wholesome aesthetic experience. In the month of August, grades I-A, I-B and I-C presented their class assemblies. It was the first time for the little ones to perform live. Grade I-A displayed patriotic fervour with their special assembly on Independence Day and remembered many of our freedom fighters. Grade I-B filled the audience with the joy of sibling relationship with their special assembly on Raksha Bandhan. Grade I-C celebrated the birth of Krishna and the highlight of their special assembly for Janamashtami was the ‘Dahi Handi’. All the children performed their best and we value the cooperation of parents in making all the assemblies a success https://youtu.be/cXb5OK0eEHI MathEMATICSStudents were engaged in solving Mental Math questions by unravelling the way numbers work at a deeper level. Students applied strategies based on place value and properties of operations to add up to three-digit numbers. They explored flexible methods and models to solve and represent addition within 1,000, wherein concrete models, pictorial representations, number sentences and open number lines were included. Taking learning further to an experiential mode, students made different creative shapes using trapezium with the help of the SEP Edu kit and book. They were also excited to create the first letter of their name using trapezium. It was remarkable to see them identifying the objects of that shape in their surroundings and bringing them to the class. As a concept closure and a part of formative assessment activities, students attempted live worksheets, Ms. Forms and played lots of game via online platform – Toy Theatre https://toytheater.com/addition-scale/ https://toytheater.com/addition-pull/ https://www.liveworksheets.com/em1396173gh EVSTaking the topic of ‘Animals’ further the students learnt about the animal homes and the young ones of different animals. They further enhanced their knowledge about animals by understanding the different ways in which they are useful to us. The topic- ‘Eating Habits of Animals’ was discussed with the help of an informative ppt. To make the learning more interesting they did an Animal Role Play where they wore the animal mask made by them and spoke about the food they love to eat. Further, the food chain was discussed with the help of an informative video. The next topic ‘Plants’ was introduced with the help of a real plant, which was shown to them in the class and the functions of different parts of plants were also explained. The students further delved deeper into the topic of photosynthesis and learnt how the leaves make their food. Project based learning activity-Let’s grow the plants together was taken up where the little nurturers planted the seeds, observed their plants for three weeks and noted down the observations in the record sheet shared with them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OALhQTNfUhs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rvd-b5fYKA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Offfhw5mboc Types of Plants |Types of Plants for Kids | Plants around us | Different types of Trees | - YouTube Parts Of A Plant | The Dr. Binocs Show | Learn Videos For Kids - YouTube https://youtu.be/D1Ymc311XS8 ICT The students were introduced to the topic “OPERATING A COMPUTER” by inquiring about how do they sit in the car, start it and go? They all replied with a few steps here and there. Then it was explained that to do anything there have to be a few steps to be followed. The students had a brain storming session on the steps involved in turning on and off the computer. This was integrated with Instructional Writing in English. The students also wrote the story of a thirsty crow in the word pad and learnt about the control buttons of the window, re-sizing of a window and computer care tips. EnglishLiterature Students completed the Unit- ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ with focus on reading, comprehension, glossary and writing skills. Through the medium of story telling session, the students gained the understanding of story settings such as garden and woods and the usage of adjectives like bright, sunny, dark and gloomy. Further, they learnt about Adjectives and their opposites. Story Map using graphic organiser became a window to organisation and differentiation of different story elements. Students of grade II also enjoyed creating book covers as a part of practical based learning following the information gained in Unit- ‘A Book Cover’. They turned into authors, giving their book covers suitable titles and publisher names. Grammar Moving ahead and stepping into grammar, the students learnt about different types of Adjectives and used them in forming meaningful sentences. The recapitulation of grammar concepts like Verbs and Nouns was done to reinforce the learning which had taken place in the previous months. The game ‘Simon Says’ witnessed the integration of Bodily Kinaesthetic and Verbal Linguistic. Children loved donning the role of Simon as they took turns and gave commands to the class using Action Words. Students also understood the techniques of composing sensible sentences through Online Games for jumbled sentences.
