INTRODUCTIONOctober is a month loaded with celebrations and the time when we say a goodbye to harsh summers. With cold breeze taking charge and letting us slip into the lap of winter, this month has its own identification. The students were also explained about the importance of shelter for both human and animals. As festivals bring happiness in our lives, we also thought of spreading smiles and inner peace by our initiative named “Spreading Smiles”. Our young students came together and raised funds to bring smiles to the faces of children/people who are less privileged. The universal value of the month being “I am peace” was explored through various tasks and anecdotes given by children during Quality Circle Time with their Class Educators. They realised what the importance of peace is in our lives. Learning such important lessons at a young age impacted the human in every child. This developed their inner peace and made them think about the people around them. It was an overwhelming learning for both students and educators. QCTThe magnificent mornings were brought forth with enforcement of positive thoughts to give children an optimistic view of life. Mingle Monday allowed the students to shed their shells and guided them to bond with their peers. Terrific Tuesday was a day where we discussed the monthly theme and explored the various aspects of the environment. Wow Wednesday brought a surprise element for the children wherein they learnt how to hold on to their excitement through the day. Tango Thursday- Let’s dance everyone! Our enthusiastic students put on their dancing shoes and danced to their favourite beats. Fantastic Friday was the Early Primary Assembly Day, wherein the students of different sections conducted the assemblies thereby celebrating special days and events. The universal value of the month- ‘I am Peace’ was explored through various tasks and positive affirmations shared by the children during Quality Circle Time. This enhanced the emotional outlook of children towards fellow human beings and will help them learn to be empathetic and the importance of being at peace. MATHEMATICSStudents were engaged in solving Multiplication questions by unravelling the way numbers work at a deeper level. Students applied strategies based on repeated addition and were introduced to the Array method, wherein they learnt the difference between rows and columns. Adding up to their learning, children understood the properties of operation. They explored flexible methods and models to solve sums with concrete models, pictorial representations, number sentences and arrays. Taking their learning further to an experiential mode, students made Multiplication cities to understand the Array method. They learnt the significance of shelter and how it protects us. They saw the different types of houses found in places with different climatic conditions. They also witnessed a construction site by way of a virtual tour and learnt about the different materials, people and tools involved in making a building. As they continue to learn they enhance their vocabulary by knowing the words like architect, mason, interior designer etc. Later in the month, they learnt about neighbourhood and the different neighbourhood services. They learnt about school as an important element of the neighbourhood. In order to revisit the topics learnt the students attempted live worksheets and GK tasks related to them. This was taken up to make the learners aware of the distinction between Fiction and Non-fiction text. This was followed by students inculcating reading habits by taking turns in the class and reading through the pages of the supplementary reader- Treasure of Tales; Unit- ‘Work, Work, Work’ using the new Microsoft tool ‘Reading Progress’. New spelling patterns and paragraph writing undertaken helped in keeping the learners’ writing skills in check. Grammar The highlight of 2nd term was the ‘Flipped Classroom’ on the topic ‘Degrees of Adjectives’. Students bought various objects to compare their sizes, colours, shapes and their nature by using the rules of positive, comparative and superlative adjectives. This was followed by an Adjective Detective homework task where students learnt the practical life application of classroom learning. Next, the students learnt about the Singular and Plural Conversion - words ending with letter ‘y’. They learnt the sentence which uses all English alphabets ‘The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.’ They practiced typing this sentence couple of times to practice using all the letters in the alphabets in the Typing software and strengthening their knowledge of the placement of letters in the keyboard. They had fun while playing a quiz where they were divided into 2 teams to work on the Brain Developer exercise of from the text book. LIFE SKILLSMahatma Gandhi rightly said, “Keep your thoughts positive, because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive, because your words become your behaviour. Keep your behaviour positive, because your behaviour become your habits. Keep your habits positive, because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive, because your values become your destiny.” Considering the theme of the month “I AM PEACE”, students were made aware of the importance of being in peace, speaking good and positive words. A SNEAK PEEK INTO THE ASSEMBLIES“The peace we seek to win is not victory over any other people, but the peace that comes with healing in its wings; with compassion for those who have suffered; with understanding for those who have opposed us; with the opportunity for all the people of this Earth to choose their own destiny.” The lines, once said by Richard Nixon, resonated through the assemblies that were conducted in the month of October. The celebration of the victory of the forces of Good over Evil and restoration of peace, was depicted through a special assembly on the occasion of Dussehra. The assembly, conducted by Grade II A on 08th October 2021, conveyed the importance of Dussehra through their captivating presentation of puppet show enactment of Ramayana in a beautiful poetic form. The victory of Lord Ram over Ravan in a festival spread over ten days reminds people of the fact that truth always wins. It was a learning experience for all of us and enriched us about our rich Indian culture and values. The enactment acted as a motivation for everyone to follow the path of dharma. No victory is meaningful if peace is not restored, the message was beautifully amalgamated through the assembly presented by Grade II B, where the students enlightened everyone with the universal value, I am Peace through their mesmerizing presentation. They apprised everyone with the significance and the importance of non-violence where students dressed up as Gandhi ji, reminded everyone about him as the greatest apostle of peace. The assembly concluded with a short oath taking ceremony where students took an oath to promote Peace through global friendship and acts of kindness, truthfulness and non-violence.

September is the month of nutrition as “The National Nutrition Week” is observed in India every year from September 1st to September 7th in order to create awareness about nutrition and health. There could have been no better month to explore the theme of ‘Food’. Students were excited to explore the importance of healthy food and learnt how they benefit us. They were also introduced to the disadvantages of consuming junk food in excess. The educators and learners connected together throughout the month and explored the importance of healthy food. QCTpaRENT wALK - IN ‘The reverse is true. As one grows older, one climbs with surprising strides.’ Our efficient students of Grades II astonished their parents with their marvellous executions in the Virtual Parent Walk-in organised from 6th to 10th September 2021. Parent Walk-in is a remarkable component of Suncity Schools where learners don the hats of educators and recapitulate their year-long learning accentuating the essence of “Multiple Intelligences”. The orbits of intelligence are an array of specially formulated activities based on all eight bits of intelligence. The parents were brought on as audience and they became the learners to be taught by our budding educators. It was an extraordinary role reversal and flipping of roles where all the children executed their part impressively. Under the guidance of their educators, the students undertook multiple rehearsals to prepare for the final event. The parents were fascinated to participate in the programme. Young educators allured everyone not only by their confident teaching but also with their modern pedagogies and technological expertise Their meticulous performance left everyone awestruck. Parents applauded the effort put in by the educators and appreciated the individual guidance that was provided to each child. The Principal, Ms. Guneet Ohri addressed the gathering by congratulating all the students, educators and parents for participating enthusiastically in the event. This Virtual Parent Walk-in was a considerable hit and a delightful experience for all. mATHEMATICSStudents were engaged in exploration of the concepts of ‘Addition’ and ‘Subtraction’ in mathematics followed by recapitulating the same through playing different online games. With the learning practice, the students developed number-sense and fluency in operations. They practiced, breaking down numbers into tens and ones and used a variety of manipulatives, tools, and math games to develop understanding. Students used different ways to represent addition and subtraction concretely, pictorially, and symbolically. It was remarkable to see them working on word problems and to understand those in a better way, students were introduced to numberless word problems which provided them the space to visualise and helped in understanding the context of the problem. The month of September was full of new ideas and building confidence among students with recapitulation of the topics covered so far and through assessments. Later in the month, the students delved deep into understanding the nutritional value of the food. They learnt about the various ‘Food Groups’ and their importance for our physical and mental development. ‘Good eating manners are equally important as good eating habits’. These were discussed and supported with a video on ‘Food Etiquettes and Table Manners.’ The SDG- Responsible Consumption and Production was discussed with the help of the story- ‘A Wise Sage’. english Literature The month of September was characterized by students learning, practicing, revising and as a result honing their vocabulary and spellings through Spell Well sessions. This was coupled up with the enhancement of listening abilities as well, through video demonstration and discussion of comprehension-based questions. Picture comprehension took an interesting and technological shape as students answered questions through MS-Forms and performed excellently. Introduction of scientific word bank also took place, with Unit-6 ‘Baby Reptiles’. They also learnt vocabulary related to bridges in Unit-8 ‘Bridges’, followed by learning to arrange words in an alphabetical order. Thereafter, they created their own indexes as a part of practical-based learning. Grammar Students got a sneak peek into India’s glorious history while researching about the famous places related to India’s freedom struggle for a Paragraph Writing activity. They wrote about places like Dandi, Jhansi and made relevant pictures to enhance their presentations. This was an activity to commemorate ‘Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsava’- an initiative by the CBSE. ‘Eat Healthy, Stay Healthy’ campaign witnessed the students spreading awareness about eating a healthy and a nutritious diet through a Poster Making activity. They made colourful posters and wrote creative slogans on the topic and thus celebrated ‘Poshaan Maah’- a CBSE activity, with full zeal and vigour. dramaForms of Acting :- Students learnt about various forms of acting such as comedy, tragedy, melodrama, etc. Children learnt a lot about acting and theatre. Application of their learning: Students performed a role play related to Cinderella written by Brothers Grimm and adapted by KIDSINCO. Through this, children understood gestures, postures, body language of the characters and also learnt how to modulate their voice according to the characters. They learnt how to narrate a story. Students enjoyed performing role plays and learnt the value of being compassionate. It is explained that compassion is empathy and caring in action. Also, as per NCERT curriculum, the importance of nutrition, physical heath, balanced diet and exercise was explained with the help of a power point presentation. All the sessions were very interactive especially the one on nutrition as students discussed about their daily diet. A sneak peek into the assemblies“A daughter is the happy memories of the past, the joyful moments of the present, and the hope and promise of the future!” The young children of grade1E, rightfully set out the significance of the International Daughter’s day on 24th of September on the virtual platform of their General Assembly. Daughters are an incredible gift of God and every fourth Sunday of September is celebrated as 'Daughter's Day'. Along with the essential elements of an assembly of ‘News reading’ and ‘Word of the day’, The students of Grade1E communicated the importance of daughters in a family and her footmark on the society through reminiscing the accolades achieved by the women of India - Bharat ki Beti, in the recent Tokyo Olympics. Students exhibited confidence in presenting the message aloud as a reminder to treat sons and daughters alike. The objective of the Poshan Maah is to ensure community mobilisation and bolster people's participation for addressing malnutrition amongst young children was exhibited by the students through the ‘laghu natika’ in Hindi. “Rivers are compared to the arteries of the world. Rivers give us the water in our taps and play an important role in our lives.” The young, talented students of Grade I D came concurrently on the digital platform to present the Online Virtual Class Assembly on 17th September, Friday on World Rivers Day. The assembly began on a soulful note with the Morning Prayer which was recited by the students seeking blessings of the Almighty. The students then shared ‘News’ and ‘word of the day. Rivers have been the cradle of civilizations and the backbone of our economy. The students personified themselves as rivers and gave interesting information about rivers all over world. The students mesmerized everyone with their stupendous performance. Our respected Principal Ma’am, Ms Guneet Ohri, applauded the execution of the students with aspiring words, accentuating the necessity of rivers in our lives and how we can prevent them from succumbing to pollution. The learners showcased meticulous coordination and enthusiasm throughout. It was an overwhelming experience to see such young children performing splendidly.
