To engage that power of imagination and knowledge of different characters that they come across every day, students were made to discover their own qualities that distinguish them from each other and then to create a character that comes right out of their minds. This activity enables them to identify different stories from different characters and choose one for their own. Guru Nanak says, “God is beyond perception of the senses. There is only one God who is the Supreme Truth and ultimate reality. He knows no fear and does not have enemies.” The field trip to a Gurdwara- the holy place of worship of Sikhs which means “door to the guru” was conducted on January 24, 2023. It was a different experience for our young Suncitizens. The students accepted the divine grace and followed all the rules to visit the Gurudwara from removing shoes, washing hands, covering their heads and bowing to feel His gracious presence in front of the Guru Granth Sahib. As soon as we entered, all the learners were amazed to see the place as it was beautifully decorated with flowers and had an elevated platform which looked majestic. The caretaker of the place gave our learners information about the early age of Guru Nanak Ji. He told them that the Holy Scripture Guru Granth Sahib is placed on a takhalmlolt (an elevated throne) in a prominent central position. All praised the 'Almighty' while singing ‘Wahe Guru ji ka Khalsa, Wahe Guru ji ki Fateh’ together meaning Wahe Guru is the protector and Wahe Guru (God) is victorious. The students learnt about a new way of greeting people by saying “Sat Sri Akal” meaning “Truth is the name of God”. We had a wonderful connection to our thematic unit “Communities around us”.
