July is a month of feeling of exultation and jubilation from the scorching heat. It's the time when children feel rejuvenated after their long, fun filled summer break. Another month of learning new concepts through activities that hone their skills and bring about holistic development in their personality. Monthly theme being ‘Animals’ was a very big attraction for the children as they were sensitized about them through integrating various subjects. The children were excited by a range of activities done during this joyous month. The Magnificent Mornings were named differently each day giving them a positive start of the day. Mingle Monday was a Rapport building session in which the educator and children interacted and bonded. Terrific Tuesday was a day to Discuss the monthly theme, Wow Wednesday was a Surprise element for the children which they eagerly awaited. Tango Thursday- Let's dance! Every one wore their dancing shoes and had fun. Fantastic Friday was the Early Primary Assembly Day, wherein the children conducted the assemblies celebrating special days and events. The educators and children had fun and looked forward to attend each session. The universal value of the month being Honesty was inculcated and reinforced through activities and stories related to the theme. MATHSReenergized after a long summer break children continued their journey of learning by recap of concepts learnt before the summer holidays. The assigned holiday homework, which was to ensure continuity of lessons learnt, was also discussed in detail in the class. Taking learning further to an experiential mode, students were introduced to the concept of 2D shapes and 3D shapes with the help of online Geoboard and Tan gram. It was remarkable to see the creative shapes made by children on these tools. They also shared some of the real life 2D and 3D objects around us. As a concept closure and evaluation of the learning, student danced on the “Shapes” song, attempted online worksheets. As part of the regular class activity, they also enjoyed the activities from the SEP Edu activity book that helps enhance the students logical and reasoning thinking skills. The learning journey started with a fun filled activity- play time with friends. Recapitulation of what they had learnt about ‘Family’ was done. Connecting the Input – as ingredients; Process – as cooking; and Output – the finished product. Keeping this in mind, students were able to share few other real life examples like washing clothes, making tea etc. Connecting real life situations helped students to understand that IPO cycle is not just in ICT, but also in our daily lives. ENGLISHThe month of July witnessed the much loved and anticipated ‘Fable Festival’. It was a celebration of the reader in all of us and was an effort to groom young readers. The festival was announced and explained to the students along with model reading of a fable in the first class. The reading log and its purpose were also explained to them. In the subsequent classes, the fables were read and discussed by the students. Through the medium of the story telling session of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’, students gained the understanding of story settings such as garden and woods and the usage of adjectives like bright, sunny, dark and gloomy. The students of grade II gave an educational edge to the game of ‘Mystery Box’ by using the colourful Mystery Boxes to teach ‘Adjectives’ to their peers. They looked super excited while taking out objects of different shapes, sizes, textures, colours, numbers and qualities to explain Adjectives to the class. They were also able to recognize the ‘Contraction Words’ and usage of ‘Apostrophe’ through an interesting demonstration activity of joining the Lego blocks. Students learnt about some tips and tricks for adding endings such as -ing, -er and -ed at the end of words. To add final and finishing touch to the Fable Festival, an activity ‘Let’s be Expressive’ was done in which the students had to either dress up like their favourite character or be creative and draw or make a hand puppet of their favourite character. All the learners enjoyed reading and the final activity was a cherry on the cake for everyone. Also, BEING HELPFUL, CARING and COMMON GOOD concepts were introduced with enthusiastic videos and letting each student share their own experiences. This month’s learning includes being helpful and caring makes others happy and builds strong relations. Students enjoyed a lot learning these values.
A sneak peek into the assembliesAssemblies are the most interactive medium to facilitate learning. July month started with a bang wherein the students eagerly participated in the theme based assemblies . Details of the Class assemblies conducted : Grade II A – Doctor’s Day Students appreciated the selfless service of the doctors on Doctor’s day, and their worthy endeavor by saluting the health saviors working on the forefront especially in the present challenging times. Grade II B – Id-ul- Zuha The high-spirited students of Grade II B presented assembly on Id-ul- Zuhaas ‘Holiday or Festival of Sacrifice’ thus offering prayers to the almighty and respecting the major Islamic festival celebrated by the Muslims across the world. Grade II C – Kargil Diwas Vivacious children from II C paid an ode to our Kargil heroes who valiantly fought and sacrificed their lives for the nation, thus unanimously celebrating the Kargil Diwas. Grade II D – Friendship Day Sharing the human spirit through friendship, the assembly by Grade II D students taught everyone to celebrate differences, helping all to work together to build peace and mutual respect on International day of Friendship. “Through friendship, they wove strong ties of trust and generated passion for a better world where all are united”. Grade II E - Respect Students of Grade II E highlighted the importance of respecting others. They exhibited their skills by exemplifying to be respectful while listening and sharing views without losing patience. The month of July was a reminder of the promises made at heart and an opportunity to remind children about values and expectations to come together as a group.
