ENGLISHThe new session started with new hopes, cheers and smiles as the students came back to campus after two long years. They enjoyed giving their introduction to the peers in front of the whole class which helped in building up their self-confidence and public speaking skills. An interesting Ice Breaker-'Hope and Fear' was done on the first day of the class which was in sync with SDG-13, Good Health and Well Being. The following weeks took a turn towards honing the students’ skills and stepping up on the levels of Multiple Intelligence such as intrapersonal, visual-spatial, verbal-linguistic, etc. Literature Students completed the Unit- ‘How to make a Hovering Bee’ with a focus on reading and writing. They brought ingredients such as fruits, salt, lemon, honey, etc. to the class to perform ‘The Honey Fruit Salad Activity’. This activity helped them in understanding the usage and significance of instructions along with the skills to frame independent instructional sentences. The students learnt new facts about the human body through the Unit- ‘How do we Move?’ which will be continued after the vacations as well. The merry sounds of rhyming words were taught through an interesting game. Children learnt about ‘Proper Nouns’ and ‘Common Nouns’ with the help of classroom objects. Regular worksheets were provided for recapitulation of the concepts taught. Skills The month of May witnessed the much loved and anticipated ‘Fable Festival’. The festival was a celebration of the reader in all of us and it was an effort to groom young readers. The festival was announced and explained to the children along with model reading of a fable in the first class. The reading log and its purpose were explained to the children. In the subsequent classes, the fables were read and discussed by the children. The students came dressed up as honey bees and bumble bees and shared some insights into the world of these insects through the ‘Bee-Me Presentation’. This activity proved to be cherry on the cake for everyone before the summer break and the children enjoyed every bit of it. In the month of April students started their session with a round of self introduction. They were made aware of the essential agreements to be followed in the class. They learnt about themselves by incorporating a variety of bodily kinaesthetic activities in sync with the concepts done in the class. Students enjoyed playing the 'Simon Says' game wherein they learnt about the body parts. See-Think- Wonder strategy was used to trigger their thinking about the importance and functions of body parts. Earth day was celebrated later in the month in which students made book mark and pledged to be 'Earth Warriors.’ Students enthusiastically learnt about the different sense organs with the help of different activities. It was indeed a true experiential learning for them as they enjoyed and learnt all together. In order to connect their knowledge about the function of lungs, with SDG 3- Good Health and Well- Being, the five-star breathing activity was done in the class. The students enjoyed colouring the star fish and also shared the physical activities they do to keep themselves healthy and fit. The topic of Family was introduced by making real life connection. A video on family, types of family and family tree was shown in the class followed by a discussion on the same. The learning journey continued with a fun filled activity- 'Play Time with Friends'. They understood the value and importance of family in their lives. To instill the virtue of 'Helping Others', students were asked to share how they help at home. A chore chart was made where they shared their inputs about how they helped at home. They learnt about various places where they find/see numbers by unravelling the way numbers work at a deeper level. Students applied strategies based on Place Value for 2- and 3-Digit Numbers. They explored flexible methods and models to solve and represent place values, wherein concrete models, pictorial representations, number sentences and number lines were included. They explored Ordering Numbers and Comparing Numbers using number cards and blocks. Taking learning further to an experiential mode, Students enjoyed activity wherein they learnt place value using Abacus. Children also made 4 different ways of writing the numbers, which includes Expanded form, Block method, Number names, Numeral Form. As a concept closure and evaluation of the learning, students did an activity using blocks and number cards. ictThe students compared computers and human beings with the help of a 'Role Play Activity'. They had a gala time acting as a machine and discussing about their own features. The students enjoyed learning about the Uses of Computers in different fields. They also discussed about various types of computers which are used on a regular basis. This academic year began with new hopes and a positive mindset in order to make it a bright chapter for students' life. It's a good exercise for mind and body coordination, it also improves the body posture. visual artsStudents were introduced to create expressive faces out of shapes .They added their own colour scheme to make it beautiful. In Sculpture Students started with basic and learn handling of clay ,latters alphabets in clay , baskets and snail. On Earth day special students created Earth, where they learnt about colours they see on oceans ,lands and sea of Earth and mixing of colours using oil pastels. Students were introduced to the poster on child labour. A gist was discussed on child labour and explained them by demonstrating it before them. so they enjoyed it by creating it in different way. Special AssemblyEarth dayThe only way forward, if we are going to improve the quality of the environment, is to get everybody involved. – Richard Rogers To commemorate the Earth Day, Grade IIA conducted a special assembly, wherein the children sensitized everyone about sustainability and conservation in order to save our planet earth. The assembly commenced with the morning prayer and proceeded with the National and International News, Thought of the Day and Significance of the day in History. A thought provoking poem on sustainability was recited. The students presented a scintillating dance performance on the song 'Save the Earth'. The assembly concluded with the rendition of the National Anthem. Labour day"No work is insignificant. All labour that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence." - Martin Luther King Jr Suncity School 37D celebrated 'International Labour Day' to acknowledge the efforts of the sub staff of the school. The suncitizens of Grade II-B presented a special assembly on the theme 'Labour Day'. Students were enlightened about the contribution of labourers to our society and how they are the key components of our daily lives. Each student participated exuberantly in the assembly. They expressed their gratitude to the various community helpers by performing a Role play and emphasising the importance of dignity of their labour. The assembly was designed to forge a better understanding of the labour community among our students who must learn to respect and appreciate their efforts. The Academic Coordinator, Ms. Jayashree Venkatesh appreciated the efforts of the teachers and students.
