ENGLISH Literature Students completed the Unit- ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ with focus on reading, comprehension, glossary and writing skills. Through the medium of storytelling session, students gained the understanding of different story settings in a story such as garden & forest and the usage of adjectives like bright, sunny, dark and gloomy to describe the settings. The young learners were introduced to innovation through a Design Thinking task where they were asked to design something to help the main character, the ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ in finding the solution to the problem of the story. Our scholars came up with brilliant ideas as designing a GPS tracker, a danger alarm bell, a flying car, a robot etc. They put their ideas into action by creating the first draft of their designs. Grammar The students of grade II gave an educational edge to the game of ‘Mystery Box’ by using the colourful ‘Mystery Box’ to teach ‘Adjectives’ to their peers. They looked super excited while taking out objects of different shapes, sizes, textures, colours, numbers and qualities to explain Adjectives to the class. They were also able to recognize the ‘Contraction Words’ and usage of ‘Apostrophe’ through an interesting demonstration activity of joining the Lego blocks. Students learnt about some tips and tricks for adding endings such as -ing, -er and -ed at the end of words. FIELD TRIP “The best education you’ll ever get is travelling. Nothing teaches you more than exploring the world and accumulating experiences.”-Mark Patterson To learn something new, look back at your past! What can be more appropriate for our young Suncitizens, than travelling millions of years back into the world of ‘Dinosaurs’! Suncity School-37 D organized an educational field trip for the students of Grade I and II to the Dinosaur Park, a diorama created within the premises of Airia Mall. The exuberant children bubbling with excitement, got a close experience of an ancient living being on land, perfectly syncing with the theme for this month- ‘Animals’ and SDG 15 ‘Life on Land.’ This informative trip not only helped in developing verbal linguistics and visual-spatial learning skills but also helped in inculcating self-management skills in the children. The curious minds learnt about different types of dinosaurs, their physical features, habitat and eating habits. The tactile stimulus of the replicas enabled the children to feel their textures. The learning experience culminated through creative and impressive reflections, displaying the understanding of the children. This educational trip successfully provoked inquiry in the children and kindled their zeal to know more about the dinosaurs and their era. PARENT WALK-IN ‘Behind every young child who believes in himself is a parent who believed first.’ – Matthew Jacobson The inspirational quote was strongly reflected through the performance by the young Suncitizens of Grade II, at Suncity school- 37D during the 4th week of July. Brimming with confidence, the young minds displayed the amalgamation of the subjects and the interdisciplinary approach to different subjects through the theme ‘Myself and My World’. The students were suited well to become educators and got their parents as their pupils. It was a flipping of roles, through which the students shared the classroom learning with their parents and simultaneously honed their communication and presentation skills. The enthralling performance of the children, confirmed their progression in scholastic and co-scholastic learning. The programme concluded with applause and appreciation from the parents, which was further reflected in the feedback forms shared with them during the programme.
