independence Day at schoolSuncity School 37D celebrated India’s 75th Independence Day with immense respect and strong patriotic feelings. The Suncitizens extended a warm welcome to the Honourable Chief Guest, the Director General of Haryana Institute of Public Administration, Red. DGP Ranjiv Singh Dalal. Members of the Management at Suncity School 37D also graced the occasion. The flag hoisting ceremony set the tone for the rest of the program. The cultural program commenced with a wonderful rendition of the song Vande Mataram by the school choir. It was followed by a splendid dance performance. The students instilled the importance of self-defence and showcased their Judo skills which left the audience awestruck and inspired. This was followed by the glorification of India in the ancient language, Sanskrit. A grand and graceful fusion dance performance on the song 'Aye mere Watan ke logon' struck a strong emotional chord among the audience. The program culminated with the address and motivating words of the Chief Guest, which enthused and enlightened the students. The Principal in her address urged the students to instil discipline in themselves to be successful. Budding author Arshya Prinjal and artists Navya Shankar and Triman Kaur Mullay, all 7th graders, presented their respective works to the Chief Guest. Grade IX and X students, in their endeavour to honour and recognize the work and importance of the entire school support staff, initiated SEWA and served refreshments to them. They were also given a tricolour each to hoist in their houses in order to spread the message Har Ghar Tiranga. eNGLISHLiterature Students completed the Unit- ‘Baby Reptiles’ with a focus on reading, comprehension, glossary and writing skills. The introduction of the scientific word bank also took place, with this unit. Story Map using graphic organizer became a window to organization and differentiation of various story elements. Students of grade II also enjoyed creating book covers as a part of practical-based learning following the information gained in the Unit- ‘A Book Cover’. They turned into authors, giving their book covers suitable titles and publisher names. Grammar Moving ahead and stepping into grammar, the students learnt about Adjectives and used them in forming meaningful sentences. The recapitulation of grammar concepts like ‘Punctuations’ and ‘Rhyming Words’ was done to reinforce the learning which has taken place in the previous months. The game ‘Simon Says’ witnessed the integration of Bodily-Kinesthetic and Verbal linguistics. Children loved donning the role of Simon as they took turns and gave commands to the class using Action Words. Further, the food chain was discussed with the help of an informative video and terms like extinct and endangered were also introduced. The next topic ‘Plants’ was introduced in the class and the functions of different parts of plants were also explained. The students further delved deeper into the topic of photosynthesis and learnt how the leaves make their food. Project-based learning activity: Let's grow the plants together was taken up where the little nurturers planted the seeds in the garden with the help of the school gardener. During the month, students developed number sense and fluency with operations. They practised breaking down numbers into tens and ones using a variety of manipulatives, tools, and math games. They used different ways to represent addition concretely, pictorially, and symbolically. It was remarkable to see them working on 'Word Problems. To enable them to understand the 'Word Problems' better, children were introduced to 'Mental Math' which provides the space to visualise the problem and gives the meaning of the context of the problem. ICTStudents learnt about how to start and shut down the computer through a hands-on session in the ICT Lab. Students were also introduced to Windows, Desktop, Icons, Taskbar and title bar of the application window through practical demonstration and the same was practised by the students in the ICT Lab. Without plants, there would be no life on planet Earth. They provide us with a variety of things to fulfil our daily requirements including food to eat, air to breathe, clothes, wood, medicine, shelter and many other products. Therefore, to raise awareness about the importance of plants, the students of Grade II, put up an exhibition titled ‘Organic Bazaar’, on 23rd August 2022. Our young enthusiasts displayed all the products obtained directly or indirectly from the plants like spices, cotton, jute, organic tea, herbal medicines, juices etc. They laid stress on going organic by highlighting the importance of using natural products. The Grade II students were interviewed by the students of Grade-III, as ‘Peer Educators’ and assessed the knowledge and understanding of the young learners on the topic ‘Plants and their Uses’. The innovative and engaging activity was a perfect amalgamation of the four C’s of the 21st Century learning skills- Critical thinking, Creativity, Collaboration and Communication. INDIAN DANCEDance has health benefits from increasing stamina, relieving stress, and body sculpting to name a few. But it's also great for mental and emotional health. Dance brings people together and provides them with a sense of community with people that have the same interests and passions. Students learnt Ganesh Vandana's choreography in semi-classical style on the 'deva Shree Ganesha's song. Through the dance, they learnt various mudras like -- Pataak, and ardh-chandra and expressed emotions through shringar ras and veer ras. WESTERN DANCE"When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor; it's to enjoy each step along the way." The session began with a new dance style- Freestyle on a Krishna song imbibing the spirit of love and devotion. We used freestyle body movements along with hand gestures and rhythmic foot movements to create a new choreography. They were also taught the basic levels of the body like plie and relief. It is a good exercise for the mind and body coordination, and it also improves body posture. DRAMAVarious team-building games and exercises like: Who is the leader? Space Walk! Students worked on various emotions and expressions by portraying animal characters like Lion, Rabbit, Frog, Tortoise, etc. VISUAL ARTSThe students were introduced to different topics during the month, for instance, composition on Independence Day, Teej festival and Rainy Day. They learnt to draw a landscape view by exploring and using different elements of Art. They also practised colouring with oil pastels and expanded their aesthetic awareness of colour schemes. Merging with colours helped them to improve their hand-eye coordination.
